Isaiah 26

Song of Trust in God’s Protection

1 aIn that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: “We have a bstrong city;
He sets up walls and ramparts for
Or salvation
,
dsecurity.
2Open the egates, that the frighteous nation may enter,
The one that
Lit keeps faithfulness
remains faithful.
3The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect hpeace,
Because he trusts in You.
4 iTrust in the Lord forever,
For in
Heb Yah, usually rendered Lord
God the Lord, we have an everlasting kRock.
5For He has brought low those who dwell on high, the lunassailable city;
mHe lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust.
6 nThe foot will trample it,
The feet of the oafflicted, the steps of the helpless.”

7The pway of the righteous is smooth;
O Upright One, qmake the path of the righteous level.
8Indeed, while following the way of rYour judgments, O Lord,
We have waited for You eagerly;
sYour name, even Your tmemory, is the desire of our souls.
9 uAt night
Lit with my soul I long
my soul longs for You,
Indeed,
Lit with my spirit...I seek
my spirit within me xseeks You diligently;
For when the earth
Lit has
experiences Your judgments
The inhabitants of the world zlearn righteousness.
10 Though the wicked is shown favor,
He does not aalearn righteousness;
He abdeals unjustly in the land of uprightness,
And does not perceive the majesty of the Lord.

11O Lord, Your hand is lifted up yet they acdo not see it.
Or Let them see...and be
They see ae Your zeal for the people and are put to shame;
Indeed,
Or let the fire for Your adversaries devour them
,
agfire will devour Your enemies.
12Lord, You will establish ahpeace for us,
Since You have also performed for us all our works.
13O Lord our God, aiother masters besides You have ruled us;
But through You alone we
Or cause to be remembered
,
akconfess Your name.
14 alThe dead will not live, the
Or shades
departed spirits will not rise;
Therefore You have anpunished and destroyed them,
And You have wiped out all remembrance of them.
15 aoYou have increased the nation, O Lord,
You have increased the nation, You are glorified;
You have apextended all the borders of the land.
16O Lord, they sought You aqin distress;
They
Lit sound forth a whisper
could only whisper a prayer,
Your chastening was upon them.
17 asAs the pregnant woman approaches the time to give birth,
She writhes and cries out in her labor pains,
Thus were we before You, O Lord.
18We were pregnant, we writhed in labor,
We atgave birth, as it seems, only to wind.
We could not accomplish deliverance for the earth,
Nor were auinhabitants of the world
Lit fallen
born.
19Your awdead will live;
So with some ancient versions; Heb My
Their corpses will rise.
You who lie in the dust, ayawake and shout for joy,
For your dew is as the dew of the
Lit lights
dawn,
And the earth will
Lit cause to fall
give birth to the
Or shades
departed spirits.

20Come, my people, bcenter into your rooms
And close your doors behind you;
Hide for a little
Lit moment
,
bewhile
Until bfindignation
Lit passes over
runs its course.
21For behold, the Lord is about to bhcome out from His place
To bipunish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity;
And the earth will bjreveal her bloodshed
And will no longer cover her slain.
